Fan Activity Unchanged After Modifications

Volume 1 Issue 4 - Duramax Issues and Answers

I really liked the DMax overheating article, but I have done that modification to my LLY with the LBZ turbo inlet and a Banks Cold air kit with the Super scoop and it really did not seem to change my fan activity at all.

EGR System Modifications

Volume 1 Issue 4 - Duramax Issues and Answers

I have just purchased an '05 LLY Crew Dually 4x4 and am learning about overheating issues (Summer Issue – thank you) and other design concerns. The most recent item to come to my attention is the EGR system. It appears that many DMax owners recommend blocking off the EGR, welding some ports, installing a fingerstick(?) to eliminate code generation and rerouting the PCV. All of this appears to eliminate intake contamination. Is this something important to do? If the system is so bad, how did GM let it go? Many have found carbon build up under 20,000 miles.

LLY to LBZ Turbo Inlet Adaptations

Volume 1 Issue 4 - Duramax Issues and Answers

I have a 2005 LLY, bone stock, except for a Banks intake. If I put on a LBZ Turbo inlet, plus isolate it to the side opening (with closed cell foam and silver insulation), plus put on the super scoop, will I serve the same function as the GM cooling solution Mr. Paynton describes? I ask, because I have already spent 300 plus bucks on the intake (before the article came out). The GM solution to overheat would cost me an additional $743.

Allison Transmission Issues with Fifth Wheel Towing

Volume 1 Issue 4 - Duramax Issues and Answers

I have a 2002 Duramax 6.6 turbo 2500HD and pull a fifth wheel (about 8500 pounds). I have been told there is a second filter inside the pan of the transmission that should be changed. Does the back pressure method of changing the transmission fluid do an effective job of cleaning this filter, if it has one? I have also been told that it is not a good idea to change the transmission fluid very often. Is this true? My transmission temperature reading gets above the 200ºF mark almost every trip during the summer months. Is this to be expected?

Duramax Squeaks Constantly

Volume 1 Issue 4 - Duramax Issues and Answers

My ‘03 Duramax keeps squeaking constantly and increases with the RPM. I've taken it to the dealer several times and they assured me the problem was fixed. It would quit for a while and then a few weeks to a few months later it would reappear. The last time I took it in under warranty they replaced all the pulleys on the front end with new ones from an 07 Duramax. A few months later it started squeaking again, and now it is out of warranty. How do I turn my Duramouse into a Duramax?
