Will Oil Life Indicator Automatically Adjust When Using Amsoil Synthetic Oil on My LBZ Duramax?

If I use a longer change interval synthetic oil such as Amsoil, will the oil life indicator in the DIC follow the different type of oil? I have a just purchased LBZ Duramax with 33K on it. The simple answer to your question is “No”. The Oil Life Monitor system does not know what type of oil you are using. It is programmed for the recommended oil in your Duramax – API CI-4 in the case of the LBZ, but API CJ-4 can also be used. There is no sensor to tell Oil Life Monitor system in the Engine Control Module (ECM) what kind of oil is in the engine. Therefore it will always compute oil life based on the oil for which it was programmed. How does it work?...
